March is Music Therapy Awareness Month

Here is how you can get involved this month

For the most part, music therapy in Canada is not funded by the government. This is why a month dedicated to a discussion about the power of music and the awareness of music therapy is important.

Here is a list of ways you can get involved and help spread the word this month.

A NIGHT OUT FOR MUSIC HEALS
We're kicking off the month on Saturday March 5th with A Night Out For Music Heals, which brings together 70 bars in 20 cities across the country. Each one is donating $1 per cover charge (or for those that don't charge cover, an equivalent donation) for the night to support music therapy programs in their home province. You can support music therapy simply by going out that night!
Click below for the full list of bars.

COLLECT IPODS AT YOUR OFFICE/SCHOOL
Here's how you can support music therapy without asking anyone for money.
Download posters that you can print yourself and put up at our office or school asking your colleagues and friends to donate their good-as-new iPods to the Music Heals iPod Pharmacy. More important than the number of iPods collected is creating a conversation about music therapy.

JOIN THE OUR RUNNING TEAMS IN CALGARY AND VANCOUVER
Join local music industry, radio hosts, music therapists and music fans on the Music Heals teams at the Modo Spring Run-Off (March 20th), Calgary Marathon (May 29th) and Vancouver Half Marathon (June 26th). Don't worry, we only run the 5K!

DOWNLOAD THE MUSIC HEALS RUNNING PLAYLIST
We curated a playlist for the Modo 8K and you can download it now. It features music from 10 amazing artists including Delhi 2 Dublin, Bend Sinister, and the new single from Dominique Fricot.

DROP OFF YOUR IPOD IN A MODO CAR
Speaking of Modo and the iPod Pharmacy, Modo Car Co-op is collecting good-as-new iPods in all 450+ vehicles in Vancouver and Victoria this month!

SUPPORT MUSIC THERAPY WITH A BOTTLE OF GIN
Tempo Gin is donating $1 per bottle sold this month to Music Heals! Currently available in 30 stores in the Lower Mainland (Vancouver). Click below for a list of locations.

SEE YOU AT SEASONS FESTIVAL
Music Heals is a charity partner of Seasons Festival. Bring your old iPods and find us at Vancouver's biggest electronic music festival, March 23-27.

ATTEND QUEEN CITY ROCKS IN REGINA
For the third year in a row Regina's greatest battle of the bands competition, Queen City Rocks, is benefiting local music therapy programs. Thank you to The Wolf for donating a portion of every ticket sold to Music Heals. The finale is March 24th at The Exchange.

START A CONVERSATION ABOUT THE POWER OF MUSIC: #MUSICMAKESME
You can raise awareness for the power of music by starting a conversation about what music makes you do and how it makes you feel. Use the hashtag #MusicMakesMe on social media and share our video featuring responses from famous musicians.

WHAT IS MUSIC THERAPY?
We have a video for that too!

Watch for billboards and bus shelters in BC this month (take a photo and send it to us!), and listen for our public service announcements on radio stations across the country.
